Begona Martin
Begoña Martin was born in Vélez-Málaga, Spain. Although at a young age she showed talent in painting and drawing, it was not until she was 22 years old that she decided to take painting classes with a few local painters. She took courses at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de San Telmo and continued her education at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Málaga. She also had the honor of being selected to participate in a workshop at the Universidad de Navarra where she studied with the prestigious Spanish painter Antonio López García (winner of the Príncipe de Asturias award in 1986 and the Velázquez Award in 2006.
With her works in constant evolution, and a near obsession with detail, Martin is interested in demonstrating the reality of the everyday life. In her words, “We are so immersed in everyday life that many of the things and people with whom we live become invisible. I show in my paintings try to suspend and rescue us from this kind of ‘nothing.’”
